6 Ways to escalate your advocacy after No Kings
Here at our Fairbanks rally, one of the speakers mentioned that No Kings should be where your advocacy begins, not where it ends. If you're looking for the next step in resistance to the Trump administration, we have some great ways for you to get involved.
1) Support utility candidates that will build renewables despite the Trump admin removing funding
GVEA’s board election is this spring, and the outcome makes a huge difference for our community. We're supporting candidates who will go to bat for renewables, despite the Trump admin clawing back millions in renewables funding.
You can get involved there by coming out to our Meet the Candidates event on April 11th, and/or our canvass training on April 17th, and join our street team to get out the vote!
2) Resist Trump’s “Unleashing Alaska’s Resource Potential” agenda
The Trump administration is trying to push through an Alaskan LNG pipeline that will have no benefit to Alaskans under their extractive and colonialist plan for our state.
You can join the resistance to this agenda by coming to our upcoming News and Brews event on April 7th and joining the Keep it In the Ground working group.
3) Protect our community against climate disaster when the federal government won’t
We're working to implement provisions from the FNSB Climate Action and Adaptation Plan that will support Interior residents through a changing climate when the federal government has abandoned those priorities.
Join the fight to protect our community by getting involved with the Policy and Politics working group.
4) Build bridges, not walls
When those in power would prefer to have us fighting each other rather than look up and see who's really causing the problems, we're working across faith groups to build bridges as opposed to walls.
You can get involved with that work by coming to the Prayer Circle for the Earth on April 19th or joining the Interfaith working group.
5) Heal in community
We're working to provide spaces to come together and heal - through a time that is incredibly taxing on all of our minds and bodies. The fascist regime would like us to all be exhausted and numb to what's going on, so finding practices and rituals that provide space for our pain is a deep way to resist that.
On April 20th, we'll be hosting a gathering called "Tending our Grief and Hope" to help each other hold the weight of all we've carried this year and beyond.
6) Find your political home
Movement happens in community. If you feel isolated or overwhelmed, finding your political home is a great antidote to that.
Come to our general meeting on April 11th to learn about our work and to help guide our vision for the world we are still building, fascists be damned.
